And then it was time to leave

It was time to leave. The driveway is a mile long. And though no one is tired and no one wants to leave this is what a mile does to a body.
Well not this body you know someone had to drive!

And this is what 10 miles does to a body. Yea it was quiet till we hit stop and go and a cabin fire down in garrison.

gardening cabin style

Dad has a garden at the cabin. It has corn that is knee high, that is if you stand on the right side of it. He carries the water to water it. the deer love his garden. He has tomatoes, well there is one that he says is a tomatoe. I am not so sure, it is strange shaped and I think it is a cross for a tomatoe and a potatoe. He has some of those to. Bumper crops I tell you! Of course he has to go up to harvet come fall and he has to go up to water in between. I should have thought of that!

We had beautiful weather at the cabin. We got no rain and it was sunny and nice with a breeze everyday. You could not have asked for a better weekend to spend at the cabin, swimming, fishing, and sitting by a fire.

Hanging out by the fire

I am a serious girl don't you know. I have to keep my fire hot dog ready.
Of course I am supposed to have the camera and nopt a happy clicking husband too. Notice I was trying to feed my children by roasting a hot dog. I got distracted by that man of mine clicking away with that camera of mine!

Laura hung out at the fire with me a lot too. We took our fire build seriously. That brush held no hope with us around.

Mom sat there too. She made it fishing once. Joe took her out to little Bow and they fished one afternoon. They did not get anything. But the fire it drew us all. It had 3 or 4 people all the time sitting there. A couple pair of gloves to throw on the wood. Or you could do it without but then you had black hands from the pitch. I am telling you I can not wait till the next time I get to go up there.

Mini and the puppies

Gizmo and Twitch are Mother son. Gizmo is much better with kids. She is 2 1/2 years old. Twitch is not that into Mini. Except is she is giving love to another puppy not being him.
But when she would reach for him he would back off.

But get right back in there to make sure she did not give her love away. Reminds me so very much of a cat!

Hanging out by the fire

We burned a lot and I mean a lot of brush this weekend. You know what though? We have a lot more to burn. We have quite a few trees down that need cleaned up. Pine trees. That have a lot of pitch.
It was a tough job but we all did it. Burned wood and sat by the fire. We talked and drank some beer.

Had some hotdogs and brats. And cuddled up with our uncles too. You would think keeping that fire going 24/7 for that many days the brush pile would go down. It does not. It just gets added back. The woods look a lot better down there though. It is getting cleaned up. I guess this mean another trip up to work on burning more wood. I Love that job!

two boys fishing

Is there anything more beautiful then 2 little boys learning to fish?
Matthew was helping put on worms. He learned to take off his fish. But the funniest part of this is right after this picture. Ian stepped back and went in the water. I lifted him out and then fished his shoe out of the water.
And then took him up and got him dry. And you know it did not phase him. He and Matthew went back to fishing.

Good times at the cabin

I am not saying she has a lot of people wrapped around her little finger but man she does seem to have it in with a lot of people!
Peter made her a hot dog at 10pm and she had to put on her shades because the fire was so bright.

A lunar moth was at the cabin this weekend. I had not seen one in years. And when you do see them they tend to be on the cabin this was on the fish cleaning house.

Fishing was good. Some days really bad but mostly good. Roger caught this 9 lb Northern. Though I claim 1/2 it was my rod he used.

Cabin bound

The great man who rode up there with me. We took a detour and went to see Jim and Kay on the way up to the cabin so it got late.
But Mini walked out of the cabin at 4:30am looking for me. I jumped out of bed tucked her in with Dennis and I so I could not lose her. And then I got up. I could no longer sleep for my mind was all over the place wondering what would happpen if I had not heard her. Little girl in undies walking the woods. Not just the bites she would get but those woods are big and it is hard to find little people in there.
So I went out and lit a fire. I made coffee and drank it out by the fire. And that fire stayed lit until at least Sunday night. And it calmed me down and Mini and Dennis slept in and then her and I took a nap later.

Twitch made himself right at home and did not care where he laid just laid and took a lot of naps. Imagine that!

Guess what is in this picture?

While we drove into Grand Rapids, MN on Wednesday evening I saw something. Could it be? Yes that is the oscar meyer weiner mobile. Dennis got out the camera but way too late. you can see the hotdog top by the sign that is it. He wanted me to turn around. that is not happening here my friends!

But we saw it again. I do not know how many times htis makes for us. But 4 for sure.

Trees and sunshine

Trees and sunshine is what we had up there. And a few sprinkles thrown in there for good measure. It was nice during the day and sprinkled each afternoon. And rained one night but cleared by morning. We fished hard and got a few. But no fish were jumping in our boat. But it was nice to sit by the fire with family and visit. A trip to the cabin is always a welcome distraction. I hope it happens again soon. But I do not know when we will get up there again. Summer is busy.

headed to the cabin

I am taking my kids and heading to the cabin. My Mom and Dad are up there. As are John and Pam. Mom has been in some pain the last few weeks and I want the kids to have this time to relax and enjoy her. We will be home Sat sometime.

I have so many embroidery projects sitting here. I will be sewing for a few weeks. So no worries if you want to find me it is here by my machine.

But for 3 days I am going to be sitting by a fire and walking the woods and trying to find peace. I hope you all have a good week.

Pouring in shed

yep we also poured in the shed and we all got to watch as the boys went form long sleeves down to t-shirts as they had to haul from the fornt of the cabin in wheel barrels! Yea to ppour the floor! They got a good work out in! But it looks good and we all got to chat while they worked! I went in and made luch so when they finished up they could eat as it was after 1 before they finished up! So they cleaned up all the food and then they got back to work making it smooth!

Pouring a curb

Yea I am not sure how many people you can squeeze into a small small spot but we got lots in there! And supervisers from all over! The kids all had to check out the truck and the guy blew the horn for them! And the boys worked through it all! Even puppy got in on the action but he had to be in a coat or he wanted to go get stepped on. So we kept him up off the ground! Silly puppy never wants to be where he should be!

Such hard work

Being a kid is hard work let me tell you! The kids built another fort, to store things in this trip up there. They spent all day outside in the cold and played hard! And most took naps and still crashed at night! Matthew fell sound asleep before getting ready for bed on Friday. Like sound asleep before 7pm as he did not get a nap. He never slowed down enough to get one.

I love days like that!

The cabin

We got the cabin at 10:30 Thur night and we had 5 tired children that did not stay awake long. Well we had 4 children who slept and mini who fought it till the last second! But she and Matthew slept on the 2 couches and did good there. And puppy well he did good in his little kennel. And he got to watch some tv with Dennis too! Got to love that! Mini got a bean of course and had to play with it till she lost it in bed and then find it back and put it back in YUCK!

Anway, we had a good time and I have lots of pictures of puring concrete so I best get busy posting as I have some of passed out children also who played so hard they crashed hard!

You will have wood

For Dad we got more wood on Sat. Otherwise you know I would not go and haul more wood! LOL We had so much fun cleaning up the wood along the path. And we left you this Dad so you could start a fire when you go up next! We worked on the bear trail again so it is looking good. We also worked on a fort for Matthew and Stephen and Samantha built one too so the kids spent time out in the woods learnign to use more imagination then they have in awhile! I loved it and was not happy to come home Sunday. Though a shower after 7 days away was more then welcome.

Hanging out

So after a day of getting wood and boys being boys having a good time cutting up dead trees. We hauled it to the fire and sat by it until late Friday night. Twtich making the rounds on laps as I was afraid with our luck up there he would get burned as he is not so smart and loves to go smelling the fire! He even got to lay on the beloved blanket of Mini while up there!
